Constipation Caused by Pain Management Medication

Opioid therapy is often prescribed by doctors to manage pain. One of the side effects from pain management medication can be chronic constipation.  Chronic constipation is the most common side effect that occurs when people use opioids regularly to manage their pain.

Study and compensation:

This study is designed to determine the effects of the study drug on the treatment of constipation in people 18 to 80 years old over a period of 58 weeks.

 

The study includes approximately 14 study visits to research center.

• Study-related visits, test and study medication are provided to volunteers at no charge

• Tests and procedures may include:

-  Height, weight, temperature and pulse

-  Survey about health and constipation

-  Laboratory blood draws and analysis

-  Urine sample and analysis

-  Physical Exams

-  EKGs

•  Compensation for time and travel is provided for each study visit that is completed

•  Help others by contributing to medical research

 

Eligibility Requirements:

•  Diagnosis of chronic pain or require regular use of opioids for pain management

•  Constipation or use of laxatives
